8:30-9:30  Lucinda Presley, Chair and Executive Director of the Washington DC-based, Innovation Collaborative

STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, THE ARTS, and Math. This movement sweeping the country offers great opportunities for arts educators and students. Learn from Lucinda Presley, Chair and Executive Director of the Washington DC-based Innovation Collaborative, what’s happening nationally, how it can benefit you and your students, and how you can participate.

The Innovation Collaborative, established in Washington, D.C., in May 2013, is one outcome of the SEAD (Sciences, Engineering, Arts, and Design) Network. TheSEAD Network is a community of advocates for the importance and value of research and creative work across the arts and sciences. It was an initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), and grew out of meetings co-organized by the NSF, National Endowment for the Arts, and National Endowment for the Humanities.

Breakout Sessions:

STEAM: Imagine Mars and Arts Education 9:45-4:00 (Arts Integration K-8)

Take home lessons that show how vital arts thinking and processes are to mandated content learning. This project, in its 10th successful year, is in partnership with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab. It is presented by Lucinda Presley, Executive Director of ICEE Success Foundation, an institute that works nationally to promote creative thinking through integrating the arts, sciences, and humanities.

Peace, Love, and Art... Mixing it up in the Style of Chagall 1:00-4:00 (5-12)
